Yiwu International Trade City District 3: seasonality and when to go
District 3's categories follow the retail and school calendars more than the weather. Knowing when booths are overloaded, and when they have time for new buyers, changes what a visit is worth.

The Yiwu trade rhythm
Yiwu's year has two broad gears. Around the trade fair period and ahead of retail seasons, booths run on order fulfilment and have less time to develop new accounts; in quieter stretches, they have stock on hand and time to talk.
Neither period is simply better. Busy seasons prove a supplier is busy supplying, but conversations are short; quiet seasons are when specifications get discussed properly and samples get made.
When the floor is at full speed
The stationery and sports floors follow school and promotional calendars, so order fulfilment peaks ahead of them. Export buyers stocking for their own retail season compress their buying into the stretch before it, and booths allocate stock first to repeat customers.
If you must visit in a peak, bring exact specifications and target quantities. Short conversations reward buyers who know what they want and punish exploratory browsing.
When new supplier conversations work best
Quieter stretches are the time to open accounts. Booths will produce samples, discuss custom packaging and hold quotes longer when the order book is lighter.
Use a quiet visit to set up the busy season: agree specifications, sealed samples and price tiers, then place orders when you need them. The relationship work done in the quiet pays off when booths are too busy to negotiate.
Category differences within the building
Eyewear swings with sun and fashion seasons; buttons, zippers and garment accessories follow apparel production cycles, which run ahead of finished-garment retail seasons. Paper products peak around school and gifting periods.
Cosmetics and mirrors move more evenly through the year but pick up around gifting periods. If your range spans floors, stagger your orders rather than treating the building as one calendar.
Planning the trip
Check the current trade fair calendar and any Chinese public holidays before booking, since both change booth availability. Confirm with your shortlisted suppliers that they will be staffed on your dates.
Where your dates are fixed, tell suppliers in advance and ask for samples to be prepared before arrival. A visit that starts with samples on the table is worth several that start with introductions.
Seasonality described here is general trade practice, not a market statistic or a sales figure for any period. Check the current calendar before booking.
