How to plan one sourcing day at Yiwu International Trade City District 5

A practical one-day route through District 5 of the Yiwu International Trade City, covering imported goods, bedding, textiles and automotive supplies, with notes on samples, timing and end-of-day consolidation.

Yiwu markets: Yiwu International Trade City District 5

Getting there and setting the day's scope

District 5 sits at the southern edge of the International Trade City, south of Chengxin Avenue and north of Yinhai Road. Provincial Road 37 borders it on the east side, and the building connects towards District 4 on the west, so buyers already working District 4 usually walk across rather than taking a vehicle.

The district carries imported goods, bedding, textiles, knitting raw materials, and automotive supplies and parts, spread over five floors above ground with two basement levels. One day will not cover all of it properly, so pick two or three floors that match your product list before you arrive.

Trading hours change from time to time, so confirm current opening times with the market or your suppliers before travelling.

Morning: start where the categories are densest

Floor one mixes jewellery accessories and crafts, food and health products including alcohol, daily necessities, clothing, shoes and hats, and a dedicated African products area. If you buy imported consumer goods, this is the densest floor and deserves the first hours of the day.

Floor two is bedding throughout, which makes comparison shopping easy: several stalls sell overlapping ranges, so you can price the same style of quilt cover or sheet set against neighbours within minutes.

Work with a shortlist rather than wandering. Collect business cards, note the stall number against each product photograph, and keep all notes in one place so afternoon follow-ups are quick.

Midday: lunch and sample handover

Break the day around lunchtime, when some stallholders step out and the aisles thin. Use the pause to review your notes and flag which morning stalls justify a second visit.

Sample handover is easier at midday than at closing time. Label every sample with the stall number, the product name and the agreed specification, and ask the stallholder to mark the quotation against it in writing.

If a stall promises to send samples to your hotel or your agent later in the day, agree the handover point and time explicitly. Unlabelled samples mixed together in one bag are the commonest way buyers lose track of which price belonged to which item.

Afternoon: raw materials and automotive floors

Floor three carries textiles and knitting raw materials, and floor four carries automotive supplies and parts. These categories quote differently from finished consumer goods: fabric may be priced by the roll or by weight, and car accessories often vary by specification, so bring your technical requirements with you.

Floor five is a trade services area. If export paperwork, translation or sourcing support questions came up during the morning, this is the floor to raise them.

Reserve the last hour or two for revisiting shortlisted stalls. Second conversations move faster than first ones, and quantities, packaging and delivery points are easier to settle once the first pass is done.

Close of day: getting purchases out of the building

Do not carry a day's purchases around with you. Send each consignment from the stall to a consolidation point in or near the market, and record which cartons belong to which supplier.

Photograph every carton as it leaves the stall and keep the delivery slips. When goods later move to a freight forwarder for sea shipping from Ningbo-Zhoushan or rail on the China-Europe service, those slips are what you check the manifest against.

Before leaving, confirm with each supplier what happens next: where the goods wait, who arranges transfer, and what documents you will receive. This site's general consolidation guide covers the wider process; the route above is what is specific to District 5.

Trading hours, layouts and stall line-ups change; confirm with the market or your supplier before you travel. We describe a route, not opening times or stall-level services.
